Dwight McLean is in his fifth season of AFL experience, returning to the Portland Thunder after starting the 2015 season with the Las Vegas Outlaws. McLean is no stranger to Portland, recording 67.0 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 16 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and three interceptions during the Thunder's inaugural season in 2014. McLean appeared in 17 games for the Thunder last season, starting in 16 of those appearances. Prior to the Thunder, McLean played with New Orleans, San Antonio, Arizona, and San Jose.
McLean initially played collegiate football for Fullerton College, a junior college, where he started 21 consecutive games in his time there. He recorded a total of 94 tackles and six interceptions before being recruited to join the Purdue Boilermakers. Scout.com selected McLean to the SoCal All-Combine team for his performance on the junior college level. At Purdue, in his first season he appeared in all 12 games, starting in six of them. His second and final season at Purdue he appeared in all 12 games again, primarily as a starter. He finished his career at Purdue with 62 tackles, four pass breakups, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery.
